History

1951

  Originally named The High School, the College was founded by Nora McNamara. Sixty years later the College is still run by the McNamara family.  
       
1989
  The College was re-named HSI College to reflect its expansion into the wider field of business and management studies. To reflect its continued success and growth in this area, the name was amended to HSI Limerick Business School in 1998.  
       
1994
  Recognised by the Minister of Education and became a designated institute of the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC, formerly the National Council for Educational Awards).  
       

1997

  Approved for tax relief purposes by the Department of Education.  
       
2004
  Agreed its quality assurance procedures with the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) in 2005. This has allowed the College to offer recognised awards, with clear progression paths, to both Irish and international learners at Levels 5 to 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications.  
       

2005

  Launch of HSI Corporate Training Division.  
       
2006   Approved by Edinburgh Business School (Heriot-Watt University) to deliver its Master of Business Administration (MBA).  
       
2007
  In recognition of their continuous commitment to the delivery of high-quality educational support to ACCA students, HSI Limerick Business School attained Gold approval from ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), one of the world’s largest and fastest growing professional international accountancy bodies.  
       
2008   Launch of the ACELS approved HSI English Language School. The College also became an approved centre of CIPD (Chartered Institute of Professional Development).  
       
2009
  Approved by Waterford Institute of Technology to deliver the WIT Higher Diploma in Computing leading to a Masters over two years.
